Centre for Urban Governance and Development
Mission
To provide an enabling environment for the growth of the cities by enhancing effective urban service delivery and civic infrastructure through improvements in urban management ,land management, financial management and stakeholders participation in local governance.
Objectives
1. To promote quality of urban development, management and governance in ULB's through various research, reforms and training activities including urban studies.
2. To develop institutional capacity for propoor governance at State and ULB levels to promote inclusive growth planning and inclusive city development with people placed at the centre
3.To Improve human resource capacity to enhance efficiency in civic administration for planned development of cities and for effective delivery of essential civic services.
4. To Enhance sensitivity and focus on issues and concerns of the poor and marginalized sections of society.
5. To Effectively implement projects and reforms under JNNURM, UIDSSMT and programmes such as Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) in convergence with other initiatives launched by the Central State and Local Governments
6. To facilitate institutional arrangements and capacity creation.
Spectrum of Activities
1. Training of Public Representatives of Urban Local Bodies: Sixty programmes have been organized with participation of over 800 representatives of ULBs.
2.Training of Officers/ Officials of Urban Local Bodies: twenty six programmes have been organized with participation of over 700 officers/officials of ULBs.
3. Conference/Seminar for Urban Local Bodies : Twenty five seminars / conferences have been organized on subjects relating to ULBs with participation of over 900 persons/representatives
4. Workshops for Urban Local Bodies: Thirteen workshops have been organized on i s sues relat ing to ULBs wi th participation of over 800 persons/ representatives and experts. 5. Research Studies undertaken for Urban Reforms: Thirty three research studies have been undertaken on various facets of working of Municipal bodies by working officers, retired persons, faculty of the Institute as well as by independent experts.
