Mission
The Mission of the Vidhan
Sabha Study Centre is to offer
an academic forum for
exchange of information
amongst the Legislators,
Administrators, thinkers and
general public on matters of
public policy, problems of the
state and seeking solutions
through scientific studies and
dialogue. The Centre will also
offer solutions to optimum use
of business hours of the Vidhan
Sabha and suggesting best
ways to conduct legislative
business within the house.
Objectives
1. To provide a forum for useful inter-action
amongst the Legislators, policy makers,
experts in public administration, thinkers
and other public leaders.
2. To create academic interest amongst the sitting & Ex-MLAs, Chairpersons of Zila Parishads, District Planning Committees, Mayors of Municipal Corporations, Presidents of Municipal Committees and other public leaders regarding public policies, laws and administration.
3. To apprise the Legislators of the study and training programmes on different subjects conducted by the Centres set up at the Institute.
4. To analyse the subjects of public policy and problems being experienced by the State in order to acquaint the Legislators and to seek/giveuseful suggestions.
5. To educate the newly elected MLAs about the rules, Parliamentary devices and convent ions of Legislative Assembly.
6. To study and analyse the documents/ papers presented to the House and its Committees.
7. To give suggestions for making optimum use of business hours of the House(Assembl y ) after making research, study and analysis.

4. Study functioning of the Committees of House and recommend ways and means to improve their effectiveness
5. Organize exchange of views between Legislators and faculty of the Institute on subjects of relevance and interest to both

Activities carried out so far

2. Programme on "Role of a Legislator in Administration" in collaboration with the Parliamentary Affairs Department
3. Seminar for Elected Representatives on 'Poverty Reduction' and 'Efficiency in Administration', at Jalandhar.
4. Research on time allotted for discussion on Governor's Address, general discussion on the Budget and Demands for Grants by various legislative assemblies in India during the 5-year tenure of their previous assemblies.
5. Analysis of Starred Questions relating to policy issues raised by different Members.
6. Study on defections amongst the Legislators in different States.
7. Letters written to MLAs/Ex-MLAs to elicit their views on public policy issues and problems of the State. As a result, some MLAs contributed articles on 'Poverty Reduction' and 'Depleting Water Table and Water-borne diseases' which were published in the newsletter of the Institute.
