Induction Training for newly recruited Inspectors of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Punjab (October 2011)
In continuation of the series of training programmes organized for the newly recruited Inspectors in the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, the Administrative Training Division of the Institute successfully completed another Induction Training programme for 166 Grade-II Inspectors in five batches of 2 weeks duration each, from July 11 to September 16,2011.
Objectives:
1. To impart general knowledge relating to field job, governments rules and also teach behavioural skills so that they may become competent to the requirement of different aspects of their jobs and make than able to perform their job efficiently and accurately.

2. To identify potential trainers from amongst the trainees to develop them as trainers.
Contents:
1. An Overview to Essential Commodities Act and Consumer Protection Act.

2. Impact of WTO on Agriculture and Food Items

3.E-Governance, Scientific Storage,

4.RTI Act 2005,

5.Developing Positive Attitude, Work Ethics, Employee's Mot ivat ion, T ime Management , Enhancing Performance, Communication Skills.

6.Punishment & Appeal Rules, 1970, Employees Conduct Rules, 1966, TA and Leave Rules, Financial Terminology and their definitions, Common Financial Irregularities, Rules for Handling Government Money & Purchase Procedure, Canon of Financial Proprietary, Dos and Don'ts in Financial Management and Audit Procedure.

Methodology and Faculty:
Besides sessions relating to classroom, the training was also conducted by management games and project work. Most part of the training was done by the use of audio visual aids. At the end of each session, the queries/doubts of the participants were answered and solutions provided with practical examples given by the faculty. Besides faculty of the institute, the training was imparted by the experts of subjects who were either retired or inservices officers/professor possessing high level experience of their respective field. Feedback of the participants:
The feedback from t h e p a r t i c i p a n t s r e v e a l s t h a t t h e s t r u c t u r e , organi zat ion and practical orientation of the training was highly effective. The k n o w l e d g e a n d experiences of the f a c u l t y w a s o v e r w h e l m i n g l y e x c e l l e n t . T h e i r opinion was that the valuable knowledge impar t ed by t h e faculty will definitely be useful and helpful to perform their jobs efficiently at their workplace. More than 70% of the participants rated it as an excellent programme.
Identification of potential trainers:s
The Institute has identified twenty-five potential trainers from amongst the group of inspectors. To develop them as trainers through Training of Trainers programme is what the Institute intends to do to utilize their expertise experience of their respective field.
Trainer Development (October 2011)
With an objective to develop trainer skills among government employees and to certify them as trainers a training programme on 'Direct Trainer Skills' was organized for the officers of various departments, who have been identified as ‘potential trainers’, from 12-16 September, 2011. Shri Gulam Mohmmad Dar and Shri P.C. Kimothi, Recognized Trainers of DoPT (GOI,) were the facilitators of this five-day training programme. The programme was meant to provide basic instructional skills and enable the trainers to learn how to create a learning environment for the trainees.
Following topics were covered in the programme:
1. Four stages in Systematic Approach to Training

2. Role of a trainer within Systematic Approach to Training.

3. Application of concept of Learning Unit to training activities.

4. Writing training objectives

5. Planning training activities, using the four ways of learning.

6. Use and benefits of visual aids and devising visual aids.

7. Plan, Prepare, implement and practice the training methods, such as coaching, lecture, discussion leading, group exercise, etc.

8. Distinction between education, training and learning.

9. Process and importance of feedback in training.

In the feedback session, participants stated that the programme will equip them to be better trainers. The mode and coverage of the training programme was highly appreciated by the trainees.
Comments received during evaluation process were as under:
1. I have learnt a lot many things from this course & shall be useful in my duties of Lecturing, Coaching and Administrative Job.

2. I learned the qualities of leadership. The knowledge provided in the course will be very useful to discharge my duty in an effective manner.

3.This shall help me to plan training activities using the four ways of learning.

4.I do perform training duties in my departments; hence the inputs during these five days have been of immense use in terms of quality. I will use these inputs in my future training, as well as preserve the study material in my office library for the advantage of present and future trainers.

5.This course is going to help me a lot in conducting coaching, lecture & group activities at my Institute. As such I have come to know that systematic methodology is to be adopted at every step. I have been doing all this but approach was different, but now approach has totally changed. Also I have got a lot of written (literature) material with me, which I can refer to from time to time.
